Welcome!

I've finally decided that I am a writer - all the other things I do just pay the bills. Someone eloquent once said that if you do what you love, the money will follow. Well, let's just see about that.

RIP Aggie

RIP Aggie
Aggie was my fifteen-year-old cairn terrier - or maybe I should say I was her 55-year-old person! She was my faithful companion, spoiled rotten and I am still trying to figure out what to do without her.

Peter the Cat...

Peter the Cat...
This is Peter the gingersnap tabby! He's seven years old and has just been promoted to Peter the Very, Very Good. He is working his way up to Peter the Great...

Bee - the Cat Who Came From Somewhere Else...
Bee is Peter's buddy. He's eight years old and has made himself right at home. I guess cats really do come in pairs or sets of three!

And Jasper makes three!

And Jasper makes three!
Jasper is our new guy - the Cat From Another Place. He's four years old and we think he likes it here - so far, so good!

Animal magnetism...

Rags was my first dog - a border terrier.
I was always that kid whose mother was screaming, "Leave that dog alone - he'll bite you."  And I always ignored her, having to pet the dog, hug the dog, kiss the dog - you get the picture.  I've never been bitten.  It must be some sort of animal magnetism because dogs (and cats, for that matter) like me.  All the pets we ever had eventually became my pets - they just sort of gravitated toward me.
Our poodle, Buttons, when he was young.  So were we!
When Rags met his fate in an untimely run-in with a steam roller (and no, he didn't pop back up like in the cartoons), one of my dad's co-workers gave us Buttons the miniature poodle.  He was a great dog - not prissy at all - and he lived to be seventeen.  When my parents left me at college my freshman year, Buttons was so mad he laid in the back seat of the car and ate my mom's sweater.
They gave me the remains of the sweater for Christmas that year.
After Buttons went to his reward, I was dogless for over ten years - and then Tim gave me Aggie for Christmas in 1998.  Aggie is probably the best gift I ever received!
Is she a ham, or what?
When Aggie was about two, Tim decided that she needed a playmate - like all those cats weren't enough - and rescued Monty from a pet store.  My boy was ten when I had to let him go - I still miss him every day.
Monty took great joy in his very existence.
And, I'll admit it, I can't say no to a cute face.  Tim made the mistake of taking me to the mall the day after Thanksgiving in 2005 and I fell in love with Willie.  He's a wheaten cairn - and so much like Aggie!  When I moved from our house to a condo, I could only have two pets - so I had to find a new home for Willie.  He went to live with a retired couple who had recently lost their Gordon setter - and they adore him.  Willie lives in the lap of luxury and even summers at a lake house in Vermont.  Talk about a dog's life!
William Wallace - the Braveheart cairn.

So there you have it - a brief tribute to all of the wonderful dogs in my life.  I've been truly blessed with their love and companionship over the years.

  1. On Aggie's pic, all I see is that pink tongue. She is a cutie. Monty reminds me of the little dog that was on Fraiser. I hope Willie keeps in touch a sends picture updates.
There's nothing like the love of a sweet animal and you obviously know that well.
Thanks for sharing with us. ;-)

  3. Dogs are wonderful! I have a 'Lucy'....however my 11 year old friend was mauled by his family dog yesterday as he was getting ready to go to football practice. He ended up in the ER and the dog will be put down. He had been bitten by this pet before but his dad would NOT believe it was unprovoked......I am certain he must be feeling badly now. No football for Tray for awhile but thankfully he WILL recover! The dogs in MY life have all been so gentle and loving! You never know what makes a dog turnon his own family!

SO is this comment on the dark side? I DO love dogs and have had nine in my lifetime....so far!
