Welcome!

I've finally decided that I am a writer - all the other things I do just pay the bills. Someone eloquent once said that if you do what you love, the money will follow. Well, let's just see about that.

RIP Aggie

RIP Aggie
Aggie was my fifteen-year-old cairn terrier - or maybe I should say I was her 55-year-old person! She was my faithful companion, spoiled rotten and I am still trying to figure out what to do without her.

This is Peter the gingersnap tabby! He's seven years old and has just been promoted to Peter the Very, Very Good. He is working his way up to Peter the Great...

Bee - the Cat Who Came From Somewhere Else...
Bee is Peter's buddy. He's eight years old and has made himself right at home. I guess cats really do come in pairs or sets of three!

And Jasper makes three!

Jasper is our new guy - the Cat From Another Place. He's four years old and we think he likes it here - so far, so good!

Delicioso!

Have you seen those hilarious Kahlua ads with the gorgeous Ana de la Reguera?  She starts out by informing us that "In Vera Cruz we speak Spanish because that is what we speak in Vera Cruz, but also because it makes everything sound more intriguing."  She sashays over to a table, picks up a stapler and purrs, "Engrapadora."  Now, don't you just know that if this commercial airs during the SuperBowl that a whole bunch of children born in economically depressed urban areas over the next several months will be named Engrapadora.  You wait and see.  Anyhow, then she holds up a pair of shoes and intones, "Zapatos."  It's just very funny - and then when a guy named Robert ("Roberto!") says that Kahlua is delicious, she corrects him with a sultry look and says, "No! Delicioso!"  Can you tell I love a good commercial?  This one does make a good point that Spanish makes just about anything sound more intriguing - okay, piano is a bad example.  It's especially true of spanish menus; this afternoon Ariela surprised me with lunch from a new Mexican restaurant in town called Los Cabos.  Very authentic - and muy delicioso!
Yes - I ate the beans first.  Then I decided to take a photograph and rave about the amazing meal.  Sorry!  The chicken burrito was perfect - not spicy, but not bland either.  The beans were great and I even ate the rice.  Aggie gave the chicken filling her woof of approval.  There was a menu in the bag and the spanish names for the entrees did indeed make them sound a lot more appetizing than the english translation.  Here's a few examples:
Coctel de Camaron - shrimp cocktail
Godorniz - grilled quail (no thanks!)
Filete de Pescado al Mojo de Ajo - fish filet in garlic sauce
Queso Fundido - flaming cheese dip with sausage
Carne Asada - grilled sirloin steak

See what I mean?  Most men would say that Ana de la Reguera is a hot chick - "No! La chica caliente!"
