may you rest in peace, but I cannot in good conscience pay $5.49 for a package of organic Fig Newmans, even if I do have a $1 coupon. I just ran up to Publix - well, I drove, but you get the picture - because today is the last day of the Special K and Honey Maid graham crackers buy-one-get-one-free sale. They also had those great Arnold's Sandwich Thins on sale - such a deal! I've become a penny-pincher in my old age here at the Villa of Reduced Circumstances and I sort of like it. Grocery shopping is an adventure - and I try to only buy things that are two-for-one or really on sale. Not buying meat is a huge savings! Someday I'll give up the occasional turkey sandwich, but I'm not there just yet. Hot dogs, either. Anyway, they're probably not even really meat. And it seems that I like the idea of organic food more than I like the price. So I passed on the Fig Newmans - sorry, Paul - but I did get grape tomatoes that were on sale.
No preservatives in those!

I see Petey was waxing philosophical earlier - he's a cat of few words.
Let's see...grape tomatoes/fig newtons...grape tomatoes/fig newton...grape...you made the right decision! I'm a stickler for bargains too. 99% of the time I buy the store brand and usually like it just as well, or better than the name brand. I REALLY like the savings.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Publix Buy 1 Get 1 Free Deals! I went for the roasted peanuts this week. I'm even learning to like their store brand cookies. $5.49 for cookies is too rich for my pockets.
ReplyDeleteI splurged on the fresh cherries and grapes, too. Tomorrow's Thursday so we'll have to check to new ad online.
"check THE new ad"...no preview done there!
ReplyDeleteI got a kick out of your 'Villa of Reduced Circumstances!' I am like you, though! I get a bigger thrill of living BIG on a small budget than just shopping! Gives me a satisfied feeling!
