Welcome!

I've finally decided that I am a writer - all the other things I do just pay the bills. Someone eloquent once said that if you do what you love, the money will follow. Well, let's just see about that.

RIP Aggie

RIP Aggie
Aggie was my fifteen-year-old cairn terrier - or maybe I should say I was her 55-year-old person! She was my faithful companion, spoiled rotten and I am still trying to figure out what to do without her.

Peter the Cat...

Peter the Cat...
This is Peter the gingersnap tabby! He's seven years old and has just been promoted to Peter the Very, Very Good. He is working his way up to Peter the Great...

Bee - the Cat Who Came From Somewhere Else...

Bee - the Cat Who Came From Somewhere Else...
Bee is Peter's buddy. He's eight years old and has made himself right at home. I guess cats really do come in pairs or sets of three!

And Jasper makes three!

Jasper is our new guy - the Cat From Another Place. He's four years old and we think he likes it here - so far, so good!

Time for a kitty update...

on how our new addition is getting along with his new brother and sister.  As you can see, Peter is unaffected by having to share his home, food, litter box and Mom's affection with the new guy.  He did, however, suggest that we give Besito a nickname: Bee.  Besito doesn't seem to mind - he even answers to Bee when I call him.  He's not quite ready for any lengthy belly rub sessions, but he's coming around.
Bee had brought some of his own Friskies along with him, so I put that food in the bowl so he would have something familiar.  Aggie and Pete will eat anything - so a small change wasn't a problem for them.
He looks at me from his spot in the kitchen, but isn't quite sure whether or not he wants to come over to my desk for a visit.  I just need to give him some time, I guess.  The other two are always willing to come and see me - probably looking for treats!
Everyone needs their own spot, as they say.  Bee decided that he would prefer to sleep in the chair - without the pillows.  He has moved them to the floor for the time being.
Apparently, Bee likes the chair in front of my desk better than the one in the living room.  He has made himself comfortable here several times throughout the day and in the evening this past week while the rest of us are reading.  He seems happy to be here and we are happy to have him - if he'd only let me pet him!

A little reward...

can be a good thing, don't you think?  I'm not an extreme coupon nut and I only travel to one store on my infrequent grocery buying trips, but I admit that I do save My Coke Rewards points.  I used to give them away, but then I thought: why don't I save them myself?  So for the past year or so, I've been faithfully savings points from soda cartons and bottles and diligently entering them into the computer.  Every time I have 250 points accumulated, I redeem the points for a coupon to get a free 12-pack of the Coca-Cola product of my choice.  It doesn't sound like much, but I've gotten 4 coupons so far this year; that's 48 cans of soda for a few minutes of my time.
Not a bad reward for just drinking soda.

We are happy to announce...

that we have adopted a new kitty!  His name is Besito and he is seven years old.  He is a beautiful, sleek black cat and he seems to be adjusting well - so far.  Peter is apparently happy to have a feline playmate and Aggie - well, Aggie doesn't care one way or the other.  She's had cats around all her life and I think she regards them as either siblings or some necessary evil in her little world.
Besito explored the kitchen first and checked out where the daily food and water supply is located.
Then he set off to check out the living room, the bedroom and where to find the litter box.  There has been no hissing, chasing or fighting as of yet.  Hopefully there won't be any at all - we're just a happy little family.

I haven't fallen...

off the face of the earth - yet.  It's just summer.  And it's hot.  Really hot and humid - and who feels like doing anything much in that sort of weather?  I've been working, reading, clearing out closets, reading a little more, getting rid of stuff I haven't used in forever, reading - and well, you get the picture.  Since I finished up reading M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin series, I started in on Hamish MacBeth.  I've read the first eight - but I'm waiting on the ninth book, which is on its way from a used bookstore somewhere in the UK.  Any day now, I keep telling Aggie and Pete.  In the meantime, I've been tidying and rearranging stuff.  I used to be a mad furniture mover in my previous life (and home).  It was much easier with wood and tile floors - not so much with carpet.  And I somehow seem to have lost my former ability to move heavy objects single handedly.  I am not sure when that happened.  At any rate, I now content myself with rearranging stuff: the shelves, the kitchen counter, my desk.  Incentive to dust the place every now and then.  I was also hoping that messing around with my stuff would be good therapy for writer's block.
Not yet - but I am hoping for a breakthrough soon.
