Welcome!

I've finally decided that I am a writer - all the other things I do just pay the bills. Someone eloquent once said that if you do what you love, the money will follow. Well, let's just see about that.

RIP Aggie

RIP Aggie
Aggie was my fifteen-year-old cairn terrier - or maybe I should say I was her 55-year-old person! She was my faithful companion, spoiled rotten and I am still trying to figure out what to do without her.

Peter the Cat...

Peter the Cat...
This is Peter the gingersnap tabby! He's seven years old and has just been promoted to Peter the Very, Very Good. He is working his way up to Peter the Great...

Bee - the Cat Who Came From Somewhere Else...
Bee is Peter's buddy. He's eight years old and has made himself right at home. I guess cats really do come in pairs or sets of three!

And Jasper makes three!

Jasper is our new guy - the Cat From Another Place. He's four years old and we think he likes it here - so far, so good!

What I've been up to...

I have finally gotten my first bargain craigslist find in some semblance of order - isn't it cute?  It replaced an enormous closed entertainment armoire that I had in our house and in the previous apartment.  It was too big for the room and seriously scratched up - it was time for it and the huge old television inside it to go.  I got this little flat screen TV for free when I initially leased the condo and never even took it out of the box.  Earlier this year, one of my happy clients gave me a WalMart gift card and I used it on a new, small DVD player (Monty ate the remote for the big old clunky one!).  And see - room for books, baskets, bears and the now streamlined entertainment equipment.  I even condensed all of my cross-stitch stuff into those two baskets stacked on the bottom shelf.  Still no cable - I am too cheap - but now I can play a DVD and actually use the remote.  I am in techno-heaven!
The dining room table and chairs have moved from the actual dining room to the small space in front of the breakfast bar.  They're in the living room - but fairly unobtrusive and I can still have people over for dinner.  Right now Petey is using the table to keep Aggie from gobbling up his cat food!
I love the wall clock.  I had it at the office, along with my vintage Rosie the Riveter poster and the fake ficus.  Alas, all of my plants are fake - as I am sure any cat parent understands.  If there is a real plant anywhere in your house, you can be sure your cat with bite it, shred it or eat it and then hork it up.
I have shoved Aggie's chair in front of the bookshelves since she and I usually sit on the loveseat to watch movies.  As you can see, the pillow covers I was so excited about having made are really the wrong color for the room.  I have to go through my fabric stash and find something more suitable.  I do like the design - but I am not sure what I was thinking with the pink and green!  Aggie likes to sit in that chair and gaze out the sliding doors - she usually rearranges the pillows and throw to her liking.
And finally - my latest craigslist find - a funky end table!  I'd actually been looking at this table for months and watching the price go lower and lower.  It's an antique Singer sewing machine treadle with a pine table top.  I love it - and I think it is just the thing for that corner.  I haven't quite finished fussing with the stuff on top of the table yet, but it's coming along.  You know how you know when something just looks right?  I have another larger potted tulip that might look better.
So I have been busy putzing around the house and finally getting stuff just the way I want it.
Nesting, I suppose.  Next stop: bedroom.

  1. Love your big easy chair! You're right, my bedside table and your living room side table are remarkably close to the same table.

  3. Love what you found on Craigslist. That hutch looks great and it's nice to have it all streamlined. Table looks great too. Are those vintage schoolhouse chairs? I had a wood one in my classroom and I got rid of it. What was I thinking? Great idea for the backsplash too. You've got so much cleverness going on over here. Love to see more!

  4. You're so right about cats and plants! All mine spend the summer outside, but come in when the weather gets cold. I have to keep the peace lilies on the fireplace mantel in the family room (where they don't get near enough sun) because "the boys" can't jump up there. Everything else that they can chew on looks pretty decrepit by time they go back outside in the spring.

  5. Hi:) I love your new hutch and the end table is awesome! You have done a great job! I am not so much into the techno stuff either. I am fine with that too:) I understand about the cats and the plants. I had two that have been fine for a couple years, and all of a sudden they were being chewed up. They bare vines were thrown away this weekend. lol
How is the jewelry project coming along. I hope the magazine you got helped out. Take care, (()) gail

  6. Dawn..It all looks wonderful...nothing like feathering your nest to make you feel cozy. I chuckled at the part about the cat "horking" up the live plant...too funny.
    Thanks for sharing with us.
